hillsong kansas city!
What an amazing celebration of Vision Sunday this past weekend! Every service was filled with life, filled with faith, and so excited for where The Cause Church is moving in 2019! Liz and I are excited to announce that in just one month, on March 17, the church that we planted 8 years ago will become Hillsong Church Kansas City. This decision wasn’t made lightly, but it does come with incredible excitement and expectation.
The truth is that everything healthy grows, and growth means change. Over the past eight years, God has done more than we could have imagined through The Cause. Our church has grown from two people in a tiny apartment into a thriving, city-wide movement that fills two campuses, which thousands of people call home, and where hundreds say yes to Jesus every month.
Now, we’re preparing for another change, one that will bring a growth of our family and an expansion of our reach. This is a new depth of relationship with our Hillsong family, and we couldn’t be more excited to become part of this church body that is making an impact all over the world.
This is a marriage sixteen years in the making. In 2002, I was sitting on a beach in Los Angeles, reading Pastor Brian’s book, For This Cause. At that moment, I felt God’s pull on my heart to attend Hillsong Bible College. I didn’t know it at the time, but this was the first chapter in the story of The Cause.
As I studied and served under the leadership of Pastors Brian and Bobbie, I saw for the first time what church should be - passionate about Jesus, focused on people, and growing so quickly in salvations and lives transformed that buildings couldn’t contain it.
In the last few days of 2009, Liz and I took our first step toward building that kind of church right here in the heart of America. We moved to Kansas City in faith, without knowing anyone but knowing that God had called us to this city. And over the last 8 years, we have seen Him move in such incredible ways.
And now we have the opportunity to be a part of an even greater move of God, one that is global in reach but local in impact. In this transition, we are not burying our identity as The Cause. Rather, we are planting it. As Jesus said in John 12:24, “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
We choose once again to be planted and let God do what only He can: supernaturally multiply our hard work to create a citywide revival greater than anything we can imagine. Through our hard work and the hand of God, we have come this far, but this is only the beginning.
Liz and I aren’t going anywhere. We’re still your lead pastors, but we’re gaining the leadership of Global Senior Pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston and a family of churches across the globe. This really is the next step in our journey to see Jesus Run This Town, and the future ahead is incredibly bright.
Liz and I love you so much and are so grateful to have you on the journey with us. We truly believe that the best is yet to come not just for our church, but for you and your family as well!
